Is it clear that the lesson addresses both important content and scientific practices?

Based on your learning performances, students will develop and apply a definition of "habitable zone."

Instructional Activities

I thought that the pdf did a nice job of framing this activity with an interesting question. Are you planning to use this question as well? Your instructions are still too brief, but they may be in the procedure sheets.

How are the science practices supported?

Students are clearly constructing, measuring, graphing, analyzing. Would it be worth an extra day for them to design their detector? Could you show them the photosensitive LCDs and pose the problem as a design problem? Your pdf

How are the science practices assessed?

You have described several ways of assessing students. I am curious why you want them to write up a formal lab report. I did not look at your worksheet yet (I can't open ".docx" files on my Mac), but the activity sheet in the pdf seems to be nicely organized with places for data and class discussion around the major points of the activity.

Have students work around the hot bulbs worries me a bit, but it will be okay if you reinforce your expectations for safe procedures.
